Power Out For Some Santa Monica Residents Amid Fallen Power Line

Firefighters in Santa Monica responded to a power line that had fallen on multiple cars, slowed traffic and knocked out power for some.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Several residents lost power and traffic in a Santa Monica neighborhood was congested after firefighters responded to reports of a possible transformer fire Wednesday.

A high voltage line had fallen on multiple vehicles in an alley in the 1000 Block of Grant Street just after 7 a.m., the Santa Monica Fire Department reported. A Southern California Edison crew was dispatched to de-energize the line, knocking out power for several hours.

Some residents in the area were evacuated from their homes during the early morning, but were allowed back in after the line was de-energized.

"SCE has the line de-energized, electrical hazard has been abated. Residents being allowed back into homes. Power will be out for unknown duration while repairs occur. Firefighters will be clearing scene soon. Local traffic still impacted, avoid the area," firefighters wrote on Twitter.

The Santa Monica Fire Department did not immediately respond to Patch for comment.

According to SCE's outage map, crews were still working to restore the line by 10:48 a.m.. Power was expected to be restored by 1:30 p.m. to about 148 customers, according to the map.
