Reduced Adoption Fees Offered At Santa Monica Animal Shelter Saturday

SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monicans looking for a new four-legged family member will have an extra incentive to visit the city’s animal shelter Saturday.

The Santa Monica Animal Shelter will participate in the annual Clear the Shelters event Aug. 22, offering reduced adoption fees for animals looking for new homes.

The shelter, at 1640 9th St., will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with both walk-ins and appointments available.

Among the animals waiting to meet potential adopters are Pete, a dog who loves belly rubs and playing fetch, and Marshmallow, a friendly cat with a fondness for catnip toys.

“We are very excited that the Santa Monica Animal Shelter is participating in the Annual Clear the Shelters Day on Saturday,” Elizabeth Noble, chair of the Santa Monica Animal Shelter Foundation, told Patch.

“They have so many great animals that are waiting to be adopted, like dog Pete who loves belly rubs and playing fetch and cat Marshmallow who is very friendly and likes playing with catnip toys.”

The nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign encourages people to adopt animals from participating shelters and rescue organizations.

“We are looking forward to a great day on Saturday and hope that many animals find their loving forever home,” Noble said.

And if taking home another cat, kitten or dog simply isn’t an option, there are still ways to help. The Santa Monica Animal Shelter Foundation accepts donations and maintains a Chewy wishlist of supplies for animals in the shelter’s care, including those requiring veterinary treatment.
