Rivalry Turns Racist Between Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Students
A Beverly Hills student posted a photo of Santa Monica cheerleaders with the caption "monkeys" at a basketball game.

SANTA MONICA, CA – A Beverly Hills High School student sparked outrage after posting a photo of Santa Monica High School cheerleaders online with the caption calling the girls “monkeys." The photo was taken during a basketball game between the rival schools last week, according to CBS LA. The rivalry between the two schools has a violent past – in 2015, derogatory marks were made and punches were thrown when Beverly Hills High beat Santa Monica High’s basketball teams, CBS LA reported.
Beverly Hills Unified School District said in a statement that Beverly Hills High School has zero tolerance for derogatory speech, offensive behavior or racial commends. The statement went on to say that there are "significant consequences and disciplinary measures" for students who show inappropriate behavior of that nature.
“It was kind of strange to see a kid my age making those remarks,” one Santa Monica High School cheerleader told CBS2’s Craig Herrera.
