Samohi Collecting Formal Wear Donations For Prom Boutique

Santa Monica High School is looking for dresses, suits, accessories and more to give to students who otherwise couldn't afford prom.

SANTA MONICA, CA – Santa Monica High School is collecting formal dresses, suits, gently used shoes, purses, unopened cosmetics and hosiery, jewelry, ties and bowties to provide them free of charge to students who can't afford prom attire, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District announced Monday.

Donations for the Prom Boutique will be accepted now through April 26 at the 7th Ct and Michigan Avenue gate at Santa Monica High School. The donations will be distributed during the Prom Boutique from May 9-11.

"Take a look in your closet. Is there a dress or two in there that you wore in a wedding, or to a
formal dance, that you’re unlikely to ever wear again? Do you have a suit or sports coat that no
longer brings you joy? Donate now to the Santa Monica High School Prom Boutique," the press release said.

Each student will receive individual assistance from a volunteer personal shopper as they look through the inventory for the dress or suit of their dreams, the press release said. Residents can volunteer for the Prom Boutique, donate monetary gifts to pay for any needed cleaning and repairs, or offer services like hair, make-up, nails, haircuts and grooming.
