Pacific Wheel Prepares For Solar Eclipse With Light Show
Conserve Energy SoCal is putting on a solar eclipse-themed event with a light display at the Pacific Wheel, free solar eclipse glasses, etc.

SANTA MONICA, CA – As everyone prepares to watch the August 21 solar eclipse, the Pacific Wheel on Santa Monica Pier is celebrating with an eclipse-themed event put on by Conserve Energy SoCal. On August 16, visitors are invited to celebrate the eclipse by "powering down at home" and enjoying a night on the Pier, the press release said.
The event will include an eclipse and conservation themed light program on the Wheel beginning at dusk, free eclipse viewing glasses handed out at the Wheel from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., and free entry for 10 Facebook contest winners. Each winner will receive unlimited ride wristbands for them and a guest to enjoy the Pacific Park and the Wheel. Enter the Facebook contest before August 14 here.
During a solar eclipse, less sunlight reaches solar panels so the solar power output could decrease by more than 60%. To prepare, Conserve Energy SoCal urges consumers to remain aware and ready to act, in case conservation is needed on the day of the solar eclipse.
