Santa Monica Pier Sees The "Sturgeon" Moon: Photo Of The Week

Patch loves photos! Share your photos with Patch and your work could be featured.

SANTA MONICA, CA – Cali Gilbert sent us these photos of the week. After a recent move back to Santa Monica, she was able to capture the full "sturgeon" moonrise from the Santa Monica Pier. It was "so beautiful," she said. Every month's full moon has a different name, and "sturgeon" is the name for the August full moon. Fishing tribes gave it the name as fish were most readily caught during the month of August, according to The Sun.

Got a photo share? It seems everyone’s a photographer these days. Cell phones capture amazing images, and true DSLR cameras render detail that almost looks surreal. So we got to thinking, why not share the pictures we receive, and see elsewhere, with you?

Have you got the next incredible photo? If you have an awesome photo of nature, breath-taking scenery, kids caught being kids, a pet doing something funny or something unusual you happen to catch, we’d love to feature it on Patch. We’re looking for high-resolution images that reflect the beauty of your city, and that show off your unique talents.
