SANTA MONICA, CA — To continue to promote community trust and transparency in local law enforcement, the Santa Monica Police Department will host its National Night Out for 2023 on Aug 1.

This year, SMPD's theme is "Everyone Can Be a Superhero" to celebrate the contributions of every member of the community in making the city safe. Attendees can meet police personnel, ask questions about police equipment and enjoy music, food and family-friendly activities.

SMPD's National Night Out will go from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in front of City Hall at 1685 Main Street.

Over 38 million neighbors across 17,000 communities from all 50 states, US territories and military bases will come together to participate in similar events. The goal for National Night Out is to promote strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, law enforcement said.

Most communities celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other community events. Often, organizers will offer safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits for people to experience.
