Santa Monica Police Open New Downtown Substation

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Santa Monica Police Department has opened a new Downtown Substation at Santa Monica Place, a move city leaders say will strengthen public safety efforts and increase the department's visibility in one of the city's busiest commercial district.

The substation, located at 395 Santa Monica Place, Suite 122, officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday attended by city officials, police personnel, business leaders and community members.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, the facility will serve as both a public safety command center and a community engagement hub, supporting the department's Downtown Services Unit and providing a centralized location for officers, residents, visitors and business stakeholders.

“This substation represents more than a physical space,” Chief Darrick Jacob said. “It represents presence, partnership, and accountability. It gives our officers and public safety personnel a stronger foothold in one of the busiest areas of our city and gives our community another place to connect with us directly.”

City officials said the new location is part of Santa Monica's broader public safety Realignment Plan, which focuses on crime suppression, homelessness response, traffic safety, and community and youth engagement.

The Downtown Substation will be open daily from noon to 11 p.m. Officials encourage residents and visitors to stop by, meet department personnel and learn more about ongoing public safety initiatives in the downtown area.
