Santa Monica Sues Scooter Company For Operating Illegally
BirdRides, Inc. repeatedly refused to comply with city citations, according to a City of Santa Monica press release.
SANTA MONICA, CA – The City of Santa Monica filed a criminal complaint against BirdRides, Inc., the company responsible for the motorized scooters for rent around the city, for operating illegally in the Santa Monica after they repeatedly refused to comply with city citations, according to a City of Santa Monica press release. BirdRides, Inc. doesn't have a business license to operate on the public rights-of-way.
Santa Monica believes BirdRides, Inc. is putting riders and residents at risk, and transportation safety is a top concern of city officials. The city remains firm in its commitment to cultivate a new model of mobility that gets people out of their cars and using more sustainable ways to move around, according to a city press release. Santa Monica is ready to work with the leadership team at BirdRides, Inc. to ensure that they operate in full compliance with use of public space and safety laws.
