Santa Monica Widow's Nonprofit To Host Fundraising Dinner 

From The Riley Youth Foundation: The Riley Youth Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering and motivating youth through mentoring, fitness and educational programs, today announced it will host its inaugural fundraiser gala, A Journey to Success, on Friday, Nov. 1, 2019 at The Terrace at L.A. Live at 7 p.m.

Inspired by the life of U.S. Air Force veteran and Santa Monica police officer Rashad A. Riley, The Riley Youth Foundation was founded by Riley’s wife, Maya, following his untimely death in April 2019. A devoted husband and father of three, Riley was a true force of nature with a heart of gold, who relished living life to the fullest. He took great pride in encouraging those around him to reach their full potential, particularly children. Whether coaching his son’s basketball team, mentoring youth in the Santa Monica Police Explorer program or interacting with the city’s most vulnerable residents, Riley always demonstrated grace, compassion and empathy.

Still reeling from her husband’s passing, Maya found an opportunity to honor him through service, and quickly established the Foundation to motivate and inspire youth, providing opportunities to help them succeed against adversity. Her swift call to action not only benefits the community, but also serves as way to continue her husband’s work and exemplify strength for her own children who are dealing with the loss of their hero.

“Rashad was a true leader and the best man I’ve ever known, said Maya Riley. “Starting the Foundation is one of the many ways we will honor his legacy – and it is only fitting that we are hosting the grand opening gala on his birthday. He loved a great party! I encourage everyone to celebrate with us and help raise funds for a building facility and youth empowerment programs.”

Hosted by comedienne Crystal Powell (Kevin Hart Presents: Hart of the City), attendees will learn about the Foundation's goals and plans to impact the community through mentorship and educational opportunities. The black-tie affair will include a silent auction and raffle, as well as music by DJ Prophet and a host of youth performers. Other special guests include founder of Team Bully Buster, professional wrestler and actress Keta Meggett, Jawane Hilton, Councilman, City of Carson, and more.
