Search Underway For Swimmer Missing In Ocean Near Santa Monica

The swimmer was last seen from shore about 11 a.m. near lifeguard tower nine in Santa Monica.

SANTA MONICA, CA – A search for a swimmer missing in the ocean near Santa Monica Tuesday turned up no signs of the missing man.

The swimmer was last seen from shore about 11 a.m. near lifeguard tower nine, and authorities began a search for the unidentified man, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division.

County lifeguards and U.S. Coast Guard personnel were involved in the search, which included air support.

High winds and rough seas prompted lifeguards to end dive operations in the afternoon although the lifeguards' Marine Technical Search team was to remain on scene scanning the area with specialized sonar equipment.

Beach units planned to remain in the area patrolling, with dive operations set to resume at 8 a.m. Wednesday, officials said.
