At SHINE this June, storytellers share about the "Influential People" in their lives
Join SHINE Storytelling in Santa Monica on the evening of June 12th for stories told live! Joe Hernandez-Kolski and Joshua Silverstein host.

Lovers, mentors, celebrities, friends–they can all be influential people in our lives. On Sunday evening, June 12, SHINE storytellers will share true stories of their most “Influential Person” and how the person changed their lives.
SHINE is a popular storytelling event that highlights storytellers coming together once a month on Sunday evenings to share inspiring true stories. The event is known for its powerful and entertaining stories, relaxed community atmosphere, and live music.
SHINE will be co-hosted this month by the dynamic duo of Joe Hernandez-Kolski and Joshua Silverstein. For more than fourteen years, these two versatile performers have been known to Santa Monica audiences as the co-hosts of Downbeat 720, an open-mic for high school youth.

In addition, Hernandez-Kolski is an Emmy Award winner and two-time HBO Def Poet. As an actor, you can see him in the upcoming Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls. As a comic/poet, he has performed with everyone from legendary musician John Mellencamp to the Grammy Award-winning band Ozomatli to comedian Carlos Mencia. www.pochojoe.com
Joshua Silverstein is an award-winning actor, comedic writer, beatboxer and educator. His two-person show, So Fresh and So Clean, with Hernandez-Kolski has received rave reviews since debuting in Los Angeles in 2008. Joshua also performs with Eliza Skinner at Turnt Up, a monthly comedian emcee battle in LA. Most recently, Joshua performed his solo show Tell Me I'm Pretty at Greenway Court Theater and just finished a successful run of the show at the Bootleg Theater.

Live music will be performed by Robbie McDonald, a singer/songwriter who cut his teeth in indie rock bands on the Sunset Strip and developed as a songwriter in Ireland. This troubadour, now based in Los Angeles, pens torchy pop gems on piano, guitar, banjo and ukulele. His most recent release, Say Yes! is a love letter to the “betrothed,” be he hunky bear (Say Yes) or little blue pill (Sunny Afternoon). Storytellers for SHINE are chosen from some of the nation’s top award-winning storytellers, writers, and performers. New storytellers of all ages and walks of life also take the stage. Six storytellers are booked in advance, and one is chosen from the audience in a random drawing.
