SANTA MONICA, CA – Authorities continued their search Thursday for a swimmer reported missing in the ocean near Santa Monica earlier this week.
The swimmer was last seen from shore about 11 a.m. Tuesday near lifeguard tower nine, and authorities began a search for the unidentified man, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division.
County lifeguards and U.S. Coast Guard personnel were involved in the initial effort, which included air support. High winds and rough seas prompted lifeguards to end dive operations around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, but the effort resumed again Wednesday morning and has continued off and on since then.
