Suicide Attempt Shuts Down 2nd Street Wednesday: SMPD

2nd Street was closed for several hours as emergency responders tried to talk a suicidal individual off the ledge of a parking structure.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A suicide threat closed down 2nd Street between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards Wednesday evening, the Santa Monica Police Department said.

Emergency responders arrived to find a person clinging to the edge of a parking structure, the Santa Monica Daily Press reported. A crisis negotiations team arrived and “attempt[ed] contact with a distraught individual,” according to an SMPD tweet from 6:19 p.m. LAFD personnel also deployed an inflatable air mattress below the person, according to the Daily Press.

The individual was taken to a local hospital after several hours, SMPD tweeted at 9:50 p.m.
