Suspect Arrested Following Shooting That Injured Two At Santa Monica Pier: Report

The Santa Monica Pier has reopened following a shooting that wounded two people Sunday night, and a suspect is in custody, KTLA reports.

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Santa Monica Pier has reopened, and a suspect has been arrested following a shooting that wounded two people Sunday night, KTLA is reporting.

The suspect was identified by police on Monday as an 18-year-old Rialto resident named Jaysawn Williams. He was booked on charges of assault with a firearm and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm.

The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. Sunday. Police were dispatched to the pier after shots were reported, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Preliminary information indicated there was a large fight involving multiple people before shots rang out, and that two males suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The cause of the fight was not immediately known.

Video from the scene showed people on the beach scrambling after the shots rang out. Arriving officers tended to the wounded until paramedics arrived to take them to a hospital, police said.
