2 Drivers Arrested During DUI Checkpoint In Santee

SANTEE, CA — Two drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs during a DUI checkpoint in Santee, authorities said.

The checkpoint was held from 8 p.m. Friday until midnight in the 9200 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies screened 762 out of the 784 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. A total of 46 vehicles were sent to secondary evaluation, and 15 drivers underwent field sobriety tests.

In addition, three drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed and two drivers were cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, officials said. Three drivers were cited for other vehicle code violations, including driving with an open alcoholic beverage container. Two vehicles were towed.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
