Fast Spreading Valley Fire Prompts Evacuations In Japatul Valley

ALPINE, CA —The fast-growing Valley Fire in eastern San Diego County has ripped through over 1,500 acres and triggered evacuation orders, Cal Fire said Saturday night.

Evacuations were ordered for the Carveacre and Lawson Valley communities Saturday evening.

Anyone who was unable to evacuate due to fire blocking the road Carveacre was advised to shelter in place.

The fire front was one-mile long, according to Southern California Air Operations. Giant plumes of smoke could be seen for miles in East County.

Evacuation centers have been set up for residents in both the Carveacre and Lawson Valley areas at Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley and Joan MacQueen Middle School in Alpine.

Multiple air and ground resources were en route to the blaze, which first responders are calling the Valley Fire.

Anyone in need of emergency assistance to evacuate was urged to call 9-1-1.
