Officers and Heartland Fire personnel performed CPR on the rider before paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Excessive speed appears to have been a factor, police said. It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will determine whether impairment played a role.

The roadway was closed for several hours while officers investigated the collision.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the department at 619-579-3311.
