EL CAJON, CA — A man and a dog were found dead early Saturday after a fire broke out at an El Cajon home, authorities said.
Heartland Fire & Rescue crews responded at 1:56 a.m. to the fire in the 1400 block of Melody Lane. The front of the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to the fire department.
Because firefighters were told someone might be inside, crews entered the home to search for a possible victim. They found a deceased man and dog.
No other people were found injured, and no firefighters were hurt.
The fire was knocked down by about 2:15 a.m. The blaze appeared to have started in or near a bedroom, but the cause remained under investigation.
