SANTEE, CA — Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve will host a series of fall and winter events beginning in September, including a fall market, Halloween celebration and water lantern festival.
The seasonal lineup starts with Create on Deck workshops in September. The series of creative workshops, which are offered through December, include a fall tote bag project, a Tim Burton-inspired self-portrait and a Grinch-themed holiday project.
Concerts on Deck will also continue through September.
A Bonsai Bar workshop will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 26.
The 10th anniversary of the Ladies at the Lake Fall Market is scheduled Oct. 10. The market will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A pirate-themed Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24.
Trout season will open Nov. 7-8 for anglers.
The Water Lantern Festival will follow Dec. 12-13. The event will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. and feature hundreds of glowing lanterns illuminating the lakes.
Santee Lakes also offers camping, fishing, pedal boats, walking trails and bird watching throughout the year. Visitors can book campsites to stay overnight before or after events.
"Fall and winter bring some of our most anticipated events of the year, but what makes them special is seeing our community come together at Santee Lakes," Megan Monteith, park and recreation manager, said in a statement.
"Our events offer something for families, friends and visitors of all ages, and we encourage guests to make a trip out of it and stay overnight at the campground."
