Man Sentenced 30 Years To Life For Killing His Mother In Lakeside

EL CAJON, CA — A man who stabbed his 79-year-old mother to death in Lakeside was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years to life in state prison.

Arleigh Clifford Anderson, 55, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the Jan. 24, 2022, slaying of Judith Terrebonne Anderson.

Sheriff's deputies responded that afternoon to the Andersons' Riverview Avenue home and found the victim unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead at the scene and her son was detained.

Around the time of the killing, NBC San Diego reported that Arleigh Anderson called 911 and told a dispatcher he'd taken too much of his medication, didn't remember what happened, but "thinks he hurt his mom pretty bad."

In a statement, Deputy District Attorney Miriam Shoval, who prosecuted the case, called the killing "tragic" and added, "In addition to being a loving mother Judith Anderson was also a grandmother, very active in her grandchildren's lives."
