LAKESIDE, CA — A wanted man was arrested after leading deputies on a brief pursuit in East County, fleeing on foot and trying to discard a handgun, authorities said.
Deputies tried to stop Brandon Huang, 33, around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday because he was wanted on a felony warrant, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. Huang, who authorities said is a convicted felon with a history of drug and weapons offenses, did not stop and led deputies on a pursuit that ended in the 12700 block of Mapleview Street in Lakeside.
Huang then ran from the vehicle and tried to discard an unserialized Glock-style handgun, authorities said. The sheriff's ASTREA helicopter helped deputies locate the firearm.
Deputies continued searching for Huang and later found him hiding inside a building near Ashwood and Laurel streets. He was arrested without further incident.
A search of Huang's vehicle turned up about 800 grams of suspected cocaine, about $10,000 in cash and suspected stolen property, according to the sheriff's office.
Huang was booked into San Diego Central Jail on multiple felony charges.
The U.S. Marshals Service San Diego Fugitive Task Force assisted in the investigation.
