SANTEE, CA — Santee residents looking to safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription medications can participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Office will collect medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at eight locations throughout the county as part of the nationwide event organized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Although the Santee Sheriff's Station is not among the announced Saturday collection sites, residents can dispose of unwanted medications there year-round during regular business hours. The station is located at 8811 Cuyamaca St.
Saturday collection locations include the Lakeside Sheriff's Substation, 12365 Parkside St. in Lakeside, and the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station, 11486 Campo Road in Spring Valley.
The free, anonymous event aims to prevent prescription drug misuse and accidental poisonings by keeping unwanted medications out of the wrong hands.
Needles and other sharps will not be accepted at Saturday's event.
