ALPINE, CA — A stolen car was recovered in El Cajon after a pursuit that reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, authorities said.
The incident began around 3:18 a.m. Monday when sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a vehicle theft in progress in Alpine, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies learned that a 2008 Infiniti G37 had been stolen from a driveway after the suspects abandoned a Kia Optima, which was also stolen but had not yet been reported missing, according to the sheriff's office.
An automated license plate reader system tracked the Infiniti through El Cajon, where deputies located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop.
The driver refused to pull over and sped away, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph. The pursuit continued onto and off he freeway and through La Mesa before deputies lost sight of the car in a residential neighborhood.
Deputies later found the Infiniti parked and unoccupied in the 800 block of Wakefield Court in El Cajon. An unloaded shotgun was discovered in the back seat.
No injuries or property damage were reported. Authorities did not announce any arrests.
