is proud to announce that Mrs. Barbara Ryan will be honored as the San Diego County School Boards Association School Board Member of the Year for 2011. Mrs. Ryan is more than deserving of this award as demonstrated by her accomplishments and exemplary service as a trustee in Santee School District for 31 years.
Mrs. Ryan is known in the as a parent, grandparent, community member, and school board member. She has spent the last 30+ years serving the community as a whole and providing leadership to improve education and offer opportunities for children. Her contributions mirror her passion for education and nurturing the “whole child.”

Mrs. Ryan’s expectations for student achievement are evident and although all Santee schools boast high academic results, she advocates for continued improvement in student learning.
Mrs. Ryan has been an integral part of procuring for the school district over $2 million through grants to support equal educational opportunities for at-risk children. She was also a prominent leader in the 2006 passage of a GO Bond to provide badly needed modernization to our 40- to 60-year old schools creating 21st century learning environments for our students.
