SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA — Patch reader Chip Brent captured these photos of Cynara cardunculus, also known as artichoke thistle, in peak bloom at Sycamore Canyon Open Space Preserve.
He said the best place to see the highest concentration is to enter the preserve from the south side from Ganley Road at Fanita Parkway, then use the entrance to the area often used by mountain bikers.
"Proceed approximately 1.4 miles north, then a quarter mile east on the dirt road," he said. "Should be able to see these flowers through the first week of July. "
