Bicyclist Killed In SR-67 Crash With Vehicle In East County

The crash happened on state Route 67, north of Mapleview Street in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

LAKESIDE, CA — A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday in San Diego's East County, authorities said over the weekend.

The crash happened at 3:48 p.m. Friday on state Route 67, north of Mapleview Street in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 32-year-old Lakeside man was driving a silver 2021 Chevrolet Trax southbound on SR-67 and crashed into a bicyclist riding westbound across the highway, Officer Jared Grieshaber said. The 52-year-old bicyclist, who was also from Lakeside, died at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy did not suffer any injuries. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the crash, Grieshaber said.
