Wow!!
What a weekend this was for the Santee ASA Girls in 10Gold and 12Gold up at Nationals in Clovis, CA.
Thursday started "Double Elimination" Bracket Play for the 10Gold team. They won in International Tie Breaker against Simi Valley. Friday started the weekend for both teams, which proved to be an intense and exciting weekend for both teams.

Friday:
10Gold starts off playing Irvine Elite at 10 a.m. Unfortunately they lost to Irvine, placing Santee in the "losers bracket". But, fortunately for them, it's "double elimination", meaning as long as they keep wining, they get to keep playing. And so it goes:

Friday night, Santee 10Gold plays Goleta, shutting them out 12-0!
Then comes Saturday:
At 10 a.m., they face the San Mateo Slammers, beating them 10-3.
At 2 p.m., they face West Valley, beating them 4-1.
At 4 p.m., they face Moorpark. They won again.
BAM!, They get to play on Sunday........
Sunday, 8 a.m. They face Irvine Elite AGAIN. They beat Irvine again. This time it was 7-3.
10a.m. They play against Corona Gold, beating them 5-3. This win places the 10Gold team in the Semi-Finals against Los Alamitos. Unfortunately, Los Alamitos won.
Our 10gold Santee ASA All-Star Team ended up finishing in THIRD PLACE at ASA Western Nationals. That is an AMAZING job these girls did! The came to Nationals to "Represent" and Represent they did.

12GOLD:
The 12Gold girls placed top seed in Bracket Play and started their journey on Friday.
10a.m.: 12Gold plays against one of our San Diego County Teams, PQ, winning them 2-0
12p.m.: Next team to play against? San Bruno Storm. Score? 14-2. Winner? Santee!
This win gave them a little breathing room and time to relax a little bit, as they didn't have to play again until Saturday.
Saturday:
12p.m.: Santee 12Gold plays against La Mirada Extreme, beating them 7-2.
Next game: Saturday 6 p.m., against another San Diego team, Escondido Extreme. Score: 10-4, and once again, Santee Gold brings out a win. This win also allowed the 12Gold some relaxation time, as they were done until Sunday.
Sunday: Their first game was at 10 a.m. And this wasn't just ANY game, this was a SEMI-FINAL game. Guaranteed, top 3 in Nationals. Who did they play? WAGS. Now, WAGS is a competitive, good team. They gave Santee a run for their money and did beat Santee, 6-3.
But Santee wasn't out of it yet. Not by a long shot. This loss brought them down to the "Loser's Bracket". But only the LAST game of the Loser's Bracket, as this was the Semi-Final game in the Loser's Bracket. Whoever won this game, was going to the Championship Game.
So the 12Gold team had to get through one more team to go to the Championship game. To face WAGS again. To compete for the title of ASA 12GOLD ASA Western Champions.
The team they faced? Los Alamitos Red. The final score in the game? 6-1. The winner? Yes, it was our girls. It was Santee.
Santee 12Gold was going to the Championship Game! An accomplishment that NO OTHER SANTEE ALL-STAR team has EVER done.
They faced WAGS again. To win the Championship game, the would have to win WAGS twice.
Unfortunately, they couldn't beat WAGS. Santee lost in the Championship game.
HOWEVER... the 2011 12Gold Santee ASA All-Star team came in 2nd at the 2011 ASA Western Nationals.
This is a new record for one of our Santee Teams.
2nd place for 12Gold and 3rd place for 10Gold.
Never has 2 teams in the same year gone to Nationals and placed as well as these two teams did this year.
They are an AMAZING, TALENTED group of girls. They have good sportsmanship, they have a bond between them in each of their teams that gave them the confidence, and team-building comradery that, along with the great coaching staff that each team had, gave them the talent to place so extremely well this year.
So while, the 2011 All-Star Season comes to a close now, we can look back and see what an amazing season they had, and be so proud of our Santee All-Star girls!
You girls worked hard for this! Enjoy the amazing accomplishments you achieved this year!!!!!
