Grossmont College’s Gospel Choir to perform at `Sleepless San Diego’
You'll sleep better under the stars after hearing the Grossmont College Gospel Choir singing
Grossmont College’s Gospel Choir, under the direction of Grossmont College music faculty member Ken Anderson, will perform at the sixth annual Sleepless San Diego, a sleep out to fight homelessness, on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Liberty Station in Point Loma. The 30-member college student choir is scheduled to perform for about 20 minutes starting at 6:45 p.m. It will be the Gospel Choir’s first of five concerts currently scheduled during the 2012 fall semester.
For a single night under the stars, the general public will have a better understanding of what it feels like to be homeless. Sleepless San Diego will raise money for the San Diego Rescue Mission and increase awareness about San Diego’s 10,000 homeless men, women and children and poor populations. The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, and end the next morning at 7 a.m. About 1,000 over-nighters are expected to enjoy snacks, listen to musical groups and hear testimonies of people who have been helped by partner organizations to the San Diego Rescue Mission. Sleepers will have a choice of sleeping on a cot, cardboard or plastic sheet to gain an appreciation of homeless conditions. Cost to attend is a minimum $25 per person donation. Overnight participants should bring sleeping bag, pillow, warm clothing, hat and earplugs. Items not permitted include coolers, tents, air mattresses, pets, bicycles and stereo systems. First-aid supplies, a medical staff and private security guards will be provided. For more event information, visit www.SleeplessSanDiego.org.
