Grossmont College’s orchestra and chorus perform `Pastoral Sunrise’ on Oct. 27 at St. Martin Church in La Mesa

The Grossmont College Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale will present “Pastoral Sunrise” at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 7710 El Cajon Blvd., in Mesa. The college’s 75-member orchestra and 50-member chorus will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major Opus 68 and Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass. Admission is free, although a freewill offering will be held.

Known as the Pastoral Symphony, Beethoven‘s work was first performed at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna on Dec. 22, 1808. The world premier for Gjeilo’s work was Nov. 2, 2008, in Oslo.
