Santee Girls ASA Gears up for Nationals
Santee Girls ASA headed for Nationals. Recap of State and Fundraising efforts the teams are doing thus far.
Last weekend was a BIG weekend for Santee. All three of our teams (10u, 12u & 14u) had qualified to play at State.
Friday night they all started out very strong and won their first games.
14u, Santee Swagger won their first game against San Marcos 10 - 3 on Friday and came out strong on Saturday morning as well, beating Oceanside 6 -4. Saturday afternoon they won Rancho Bernardo as well with an impressive score of 13-3. After losing the next 2 games to West Grove and La Verne, they were unable to advance any further at State, but their 3 wins placed them 5th at State! Way to go Santee Swagger!!!

10u started out strong as well Friday, winning Moorpark 6 -3. Saturday morning they played Los Alamitos, losing to them 4 -1. Unfortunately, losing a game that early on, put them in the losers bracket and they had to play a lot more games to continue to advance in State. At their third game at State, they played Huntington Beach and ended up having to go to International Tie Breaker to decide the winner. Santee 10U prevailed and won 5-2! Way to go girls! Their next game was against Carlsbad and they won 5 -1! Winning this game meant that the Santee 10U girls qualified for Nationals! Which was a very good thing, because they lost their next game against Simi Valley and were unable to advance any further, however, Santee 10U finished at state tied for 9th place. Good going girls!!!
And last, but certainly not least was . They started out playing against WAGS, a team they had lost to the weekend before in Escondido's 4th of July tournament. But they prevailed, after each team being up at certain times of the game, Santee won 10-9. Saturday morning Santee faced East County, their "cross-town" rivals. Two very well talented teams playing against each other. This time East County would prevail, winning Santee in International Tie Breaker.

This meant that Santee would now go down to the "losers bracket". Meaning they had a long fight ahead of them, if they wanted to make it to the end.
Next game. Chino Hills. Santee wins 6-4. Next game. La Mirada. Santee wins 6-1. This was an important game too, because it meant that 12U qualified for Nationals.
But Santee 12U wasn't done yet.
Next came Alpine. Mind you, this is STILL on Saturday. Last game of the day and Santee knocks out Alpine, winning 11-4.
After a long day, the girls get some rest because they still had a big fight ahead of them.
Along came Sunday.
Seaside. Santee wins 9-4.
Next game. Charter Oaks. Santee wins 7-4. after being down early on.
Next game. East County. Cross-town rivals meet yet again. This time, it was Santee's time to win, knocking East County out of State.
Next game. Huntington Beach. A good team. The semi-finals. 17-0. Santee wins, yet again, knocking out Huntington Beach.
Santee did it. They made it to the finals. So far they had played 9 games all weekend long. 1 on Friday, 4 on Saturday and now they had just finished 4 more games on Sunday. Going into their 5th game on Sunday, they were in the Finals against Los Alamitos. With the scores changing almost every inning, and each team being ahead at different times, Los Alamitos won the State Championships ONLY narrowly beating Santee 14-13.
Santee 12U team placed 2nd at State!
On Wednesday, July 13th, the 12U Santee Gold team was at their monthly meeting for their achivement of winning Districts and placing 2nd at State.
An amazing weekend for all 3 teams. GO SANTEE!!!!
Now, all 3 teams have 2 more weeks before they head off to Nationals. The 14U team will be going to Spokane, Washington, and the 10u and 12u teams will be heading off to Clovis, CA.
Going to Nationals means having to spend money. So all three teams are doing whatever fundraising they can to help get them there.
So far they are doing the following fundraising:
10U - at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles on Friday, July 22nd, starting at 6 p.m. Spaghetti Dinner also available for $8 per plate. on Saturday, July 23rd at Toyota Certifed Center of Santee on Fanita and Mission Gorge.
12U - at the corner of Prospect and Magnolia, Saturday, July 16th.
14U- - Saturday, July 16th from 10 -2 at the Toyota Certified Center of Santee.
Please come out and support them in any way you can. I know that Santee is VERY proud of all of our teams and how well they have done.
