Brush Fire Prompts Evacuations, Threatens Homes In East County
Deputies evacuated residents in the area of Sycuan Oaks Drive.

DEHESA, CA — A brush fire prompted evacuations and threatened homes Tuesday in San Diego's East County.
The fire sparked at about 4:45 p.m. off the 1900 block of Harbison Canyon Road in the Dehesa area, east of El Cajon, according to Cal Fire and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Deputies evacuated residents in the area of Sycuan Oaks Drive.
The blaze, called the Harbison Fire, spread to 37 acres before crews halted the forward rate of the flames, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

Paramedics took a resident to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for burns suffered during the fire and treated a firefighter for a knee injury sustained while battling the flames, Cal Fire Capt. Neil Czapinski said. The fire engulfed at least two outbuildings but caused no reported damage to homes, he said.
The fire shut down Harbison Canyon Road from Dehesa Road to Crest Boulevard, according to the county's Department of Public Works.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation, according to Cal Fire
