Cameron Family YMCA Showcases Remodeled Facility

The highly-anticipated renovations will enable the Y to serve more youth, adults and families while strengthening the community

Santee, CA – June 13, 2019 – The Cameron Family YMCA located in Santee (10123 Riverwalk Dr.) unveiled the $3.6 million remodel of its 16-year-old facility today during in a ribbon cutting event.

The YMCA extends its deepest thanks to the following major donors who made the remodel a reality: The Cameron Family, Michael Hood and the Woolman Family.

The Cameron Family, whose name the facility bears, has given over $2 million towards the facility’s inception, as well as towards the current renovation to meet the community’s growing needs.

Nearly 50 key community donors, leaders and YMCA supporters joined the ribbon cutting celebration, including YMCA leadership, City of Santee Council Members Ronn Hall and Laura Koval, Santee City Manager Marlene Best, Santee Community Services Director Bill Maertz, Santee School District Superintendent Kristin Baranski, CEO of the Padre Water District Allen Carlisle and more.

The updated facility boasts a more modern look and feel that better reflects the neighborhood. The highlighted features include:

  • An expanded fitness center with brand new, top-of-the-line equipment and a new functional training area.
  • A modern, open concept with 360-degree views throughout the facility.
  • Double the group exercise studio space – four total studios. Member-exclusive OnDemand fitness programs.
  • Expanded Child Watch and Kids Club center with convenient parent access.
  • New parent viewing area for gymnastics with floor-to-ceiling glass and tiered seating.
  • Expanded lobby with new member lounge and social area.

“We are thrilled with how this important project turned out - the community already loves their new YMCA,” said Debby Lenz, Executive Director of the Cameron Family YMCA. “When you become a member of the Y, you’re not just joining a gym, you’re supporting a movement dedicated to building stronger and connected communities. We couldn’t do it without the support from our community and donors.”

As a non-profit organization, the YMCA strives to meet the needs of the community through programs that encourage people to be healthier- regardless of their ability to pay. Donors make it possible to keep program costs low for participants. Additionally the YMCA offers scholarships to those who need the support.

The community is invited on Saturday, June 15 from 8am-2pm for an unveiling celebration. Enjoy demonstrations, orientations, family activities and giveaways.

Additionally, for anyone who joins the newly renovated Cameron Family Y will pay $0 joining fee and receive a Summer Fun Booklet with up to $300 in savings.
