LAKESIDE, CA — A sheriff's deputy's vehicle was struck by another vehicle Thursday evening while trying to stop a suspected hit-and-run driver in Lakeside.

As deputies searched for a vehicle suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run that occurred in the area of state Route 67 and Riverford Drive, a deputy at Mapleview Street and state Route 67 spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on Mapleview Street, according to Sgt. Claudia Delgado of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The deputy turned on the patrol vehicle's lights and siren and proceeded through the intersection in an attempt to catch up to the suspect vehicle when a vehicle traveling southbound on state Route 67 crashed into the deputy's cruiser, Delgado said.
