DUI Suspected In Deadly Head-On Crash In East County
The cause of the crash remained under investigation, but authorities said alcohol appears to have been a factor.
EL CAJON, CA — A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon in a suspected DUI head-on crash in San Diego's East County, authorities said.
The collision happened at 2:54 p.m. on La Cresta Road, east of Coyote Ridge, according to the California Highway Patrol. A 30-year-old El Cajon woman driving an eastbound 2011 Chevrolet Silverado crossed over the solid double-yellow lines into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 72-year-old Ramona woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Their names were not released.
