4.0 ​Earthquake Rattles Parts Of San Diego, Riverside Counties

TEMECULA, CA— A 4.0 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Riverside, San Diego and Orange counties around 9:46 a.m. on Sunday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake's epicenter was identified on the northern end of San Diego County within Palomar Mountain State Park, about 18 miles northeast of Escondido and 17 miles southeast of Temecula, according to USGS.

The quick jolt was felt in Escondido, San Marcos, Carlsbad, Murrieta, Temecula and as far away as San Clemente over in Orange County. Several residents of Southern California reported that the quake triggered a loud, booming sound.

The quake — originally recorded as a 4.1 before being slightly downgraded — had a depth of about 13.7 miles.

No injuries were reported as a result of the quake.
