East County Nightlife: EC In The National News! Woot!
Your Patch guide to East County nightlife, Nov. 10-13.

Isn’t it always a bit of thrill when, during your morning perusal of the national news online or on TV, the name La Mesa or El Cajon or the like pops up? More than just the mainstream affirmation that yes, East County does exist, it’s exciting to participate in some semblance of notoriety, even if that participation is merely proximity to the news story in question.
True, not all East County news notable enough to make the national feed is news to be proud of (in fact, most of it is rather embarrassing), but hey, we’ll take what we can get, like the recent disclosure that the young lady behind the , the rootin’-tootin’-ist little corner of East San Diego County.
Now, lest we pass judgment on this Mariah Yeater character, we should avert our eyes from her stereotypical East Countiness and at least thank her for bringing scores of respectable reporters (OK, mostly TMZ correspondents) to our area, thus pumping money into our local economy. So if any of them are still hanging around (that DNA test is coming up any day now), we invite them to partake in our bountiful buffet of nightlife. Who knows, they might even meet a girl who knows a guy who dated this chick who once worked with the estimable Ms. Yeater. Scoop!

Find out what's happening in Santeefor free with the latest updates from Patch.
Where/when: , 7777 University Ave., La Mesa, 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
Why Go: It seems like only yesterday when San Diego beer was synonymous with a squat little German guy with a downtown restaurant. These days, nearly every corner of the county boasts its own microbrewery, such as . In honor of San Diego Beer Week, Manzanita is throwing a special party at the Riviera Supper Club featuring handcrafted brews, specialty beer-infused cuisine, and a chance to meet some members of the brewing crew.
Price: No cover.
Where/when: Second Wind San Carlos, 8515 Navajo Rd., San Carlos, 9 p.m. Thursday.
Why Go: Just as people like their martinis either shaken or stirred, people typically like their cover bands either broad or narrow—encompassing a wide time frame and/or music genre, or focusing, laser-like, on one specific band. Badd Co, a tribute to 1970s British band Bad Company, is in the latter camp, and since the original band is no longer in existence, their show will probably feature the closest rendition of “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love” this side of a time machine.
Price: $5.
FRIDAY
Where/when: Palm Avenue and Allison Avenue, La Mesa, 5 p.m. Friday.
Why Go: It’s amazing how certain things that were once considered skeezy last resorts are now trendy. Food trucks, for instance, have undergone a radical image renovation in the last few years, and to celebrate the quality and variety that now define the mini-restaurants on wheels, La Mesa is hosting a caravan of them every Friday. Participants include Curiocity, Mangia Mangia, Sweet Treats, Asian Persuasion, The Gooch and many more.
Price: Free admission.
Where/when: , 7662 Broadway, Lemon Grove, 9 p.m. Friday.
Why Go: What’s more serious than the guise (or guys, as it were) playing this Friday at Dirk’s? During their set, the clock will strike 11:11 p.m. On Nov. 11, 2011, aka 11/11/11. It will be another hundred years before 11:11 11/11/11 happens again, so come to the show and raise your glass to numerical awesomeness.
Price: No cover.
SATURDAY
Where/when: Mission Trails Regional Park, 1 Father Junipero Serra Trail, San Diego, 5 p.m. Saturday.
Why Go: Now that daylight saving time has been rolled back, you don’t have to wait until late in the evening to get some star action (little action that it is under the blanket of light pollution). Join trail guide George Varga and his provided telescope to catch a glimpse of the mostly-full moon, the Andromeda Galaxy, Jupiter and more.
Price: Free.
Where/when: Sycuan Casino Showcase Theatre, 5469 Casino Way, El Cajon, 6 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Why Go: Sorry folks, a Beatles reunion will never be in the cards, until, at least, scientists figure out a way to clone famous/important/valuable dead people so the world can continue benefiting from their particular brand of genius. Until then, check out Illinois Entertainer of the Year and Best Tribute Band American English, whose spot-on covers of Beatles classics have been performed around the world.
Price: $15-$25.
Where/when: El Cajon Grand, 351 W. Main St., El Cajon, 9 p.m. Saturday.
Why Go: It appears to be tribute band weekend here at East County Nightlife, but this LA-based Iron Maiden cover band has a twist—it’s composed of actual maidens (females, that is). Watch the gals rock out with as much metal cred as their male counterparts this Saturday at the El Cajon Grand.
Price: No cover.
SUNDAY
Where/when: , 8661 N. Magnolia Ave., Santee, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Why Go: As mentioned, the end of daylight saving means it gets darker much earlier, so if you think about it, the afternoon is now basically twilight, thus fitting into our strict “nightlife” parameters. But seriously, you’ll feel like you’re in a 1940s nightclub listening and dancing to the Down-Beat Big Band Orchestra at Lacey’s this Sunday.
Price: $10, $7 seniors, $5 veterans or active duty military.
