'Erratic Subject' Shot In El Cajon Officer-Involved Shooting: Police

BREAKING: The shooting occurred on Broadway near N. Mollison Avenue.

EL CAJON, CA — An officer-involved shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon at an East County strip mall when a suspect became uncooperative, according to El Cajon police.

"Officers responded to an erratic subject that ended with an officer involved shooting," the El Cajon Police Department stated in a Twitter post at about 3:30 p.m.

The shooting occurred at about 2:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Broadway — between Ballantyne Street and N. Mollison Avenue — as officers were responding to a report of a person behaving "erratically," El Cajon police Lt. Rob Ransweiler told reporters.

As they came into contact with the man, a confrontation ensued and at least one of the officers opened fire.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the shooting.

The severity of the man's injuries were not clear and his name was not immediately made available.
