Magnolia Fire In Santee Contained To 18 Acres

Residents of Hillcreek Road and Ramsgate were briefly under an evacuation warning issued by the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

SANTEE, CA — A brush fire that briefly threatened homes Thanksgiving Day in Santee was contained to 18 acres, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said.

The Magnolia fire broke out at 10:49 a.m. Thursday on the north side of the Walker Preserve, 9500 Magnolia Ave.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m., the sheriff's office issued an evacuation warning for residents of Hillcreek Road and Ramsgate Drive and Way. Residents were told to evacuate through Jeremy Street to North Magnolia Avenue and go to Pathways Community Church on Carlton Hills Boulevard.

Crews from Cal Fire and Heartland Fire and Rescue were among those who helped the Santee Fire Department battle the blaze from the ground and from the air.

As of 1:45 p.m., the fire was contained, according to the sheriff's office.

There were no injuries or damaged homes, the sheriff's office said.

Firefighters were expected to remain at the scene for several hours for cleanup and to ensure no hotspots caused any flare-ups.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
