Explosive Materials Found In RV In East San Diego County

Deputies found the explosive materials after responding to a possible overdose call.

LAKESIDE, CA — Explosives were found inside a recreational vehicle over the weekend in San Diego's East County, authorities said.

Deputies responded shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday to a possible overdose call in the 11000 block of Lakeside Avenue in Lakeside, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. They found a man who was unresponsive in an RV on the property.

Paramedics took the man to a hospital, sheriff's Sgt. Anthony Tripoli said. His condition and name were not immediately available.

"While at the scene, deputies noticed several items in the RV that were indicative of possible explosives," Tripoli said.

Personnel from the city of San Diego and county HAZMAT teams and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted the sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit with disposing some of the explosive materials.
