First Round of Prep Football Playoffs Set to Kick Off

It's the first round of the CIF San Diego Section football playoffs, and that usually means some unusual match-ups, and Friday night's lineup of games is no exception.

With the top four seeds in each of the five divisions drawing byes into next week's quarterfinals, the 40 teams who will see action range from several 9-1 teams to a Division III game pitting 1-8-1 Lincoln against 1-9 Ramona. There are 13 teams in the playoffs with losing records, and they qualify in part because of the need to have 12 schools playing in each division.

Here are the games by division that kick off the playoff action on Friday night. All start at 7 p.m. Check back Saturday morning for results and quarterfinal pairings.

DIVISION I

Grossmont (5-4-1) at Mira Mesa (5-4-1)

San Diego (6-3) at El Camino (4-6)
