Get Outside And Discover The Beauty Of Santee During 'Discovery Day'

SANTEE, CA — Discover the beauty of Santee and explore the outdoors during Santee Discovery Day.

Hosted by the city, the all-new event on Jan. 27 encourages residents and visitors to enjoy Walker Preserve Trail, a family-friendly and popular trail in Santee.

"Santee Discovery Day is a great way to get outside and appreciate the beauty and learn about the natural environment that surrounds us," said Becky Lowndes, the city's special events supervisor.

Participants can walk, run, bike or even bring a stroller or leashed dog on the 2.6-mile round trip adventure on Walker Preserve Trail.

Walker Preserve Trail stretches from Magnolia Avenue to Lakeside and is along the San Diego River. The 1.3-mile trail features historic farming and mining artifacts, as well as history-themed murals painted by residents and students underneath the Magnolia Avenue bridge.

"Santee is a great city for nature-lovers," Lowndes said. "There are numerous parks and trails that fall within city limits as well as being the starting place for several larger hikes in East County."

At the event, participants can enter an opportunity drawing by collecting signatures on a passport card at nature-themed booths along the trail. Passport cards will be available at the city's information booth.

There will also be a food truck as well as a rock wall for kids.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27 at Walker Preserve Trail at 9500 Magnolia Ave.

Event attendees are encouraged to either park along Magnolia Avenue or Chubb Lane and walk to the west end of Walker Preserve Trail. For additional trail access, Sandy Creek Drive and Lakeside Baseball Park will also be open to the public.
