Groundbreaking Slated For Grossmont College Arts Center

The $35 million performing and visual arts center will include a 38,680-square-foot, 390-seat theater and an art gallery.

EL CAJON, CA – Groundbreaking is scheduled Friday for a $35 million performing and visual arts center at Grossmont College.

The building will include a 38,680-square-foot, 390-seat theater and an art gallery.

According to the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, the project will be the first phase of construction on an arts and communication complex, and the first major work using bond funds from Proposition V, approved by East County voters in 2012.

The bond measure will also fund a math and science building, a facility for business, technology and liberal arts, and various infrastructure updates.

Celebrities who attended Grossmont College include "Airplane" actor Robert Hays, comic Dat Phan, Rachel Bilson of "The O.C.," and "Joe Isuzu" pitchman David Leisure, who went on to become a regular on the television series "Empty Nest" and several daytime soap operas.
