October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Santee School District aims to promote a safe and positive environment all year long.

SANTEE, CA — October is National Bullying Prevention Month. The campaign aims to bring attention to the bullying problem and involve people nationwide in a conversation on how to create a world safe from bullying.

In Santee School District, preventing bullying is not just a priority in October, it is an ongoing commitment.

"I'm extremely proud of the work performed on our school campuses every day by our teaching, counseling, classified and administrative staff as they support student safety and well-being," Superintendent Kristin Baranski said.

"Student perception of their physical and emotional safety at school is important to us all. The activities performed this month, and throughout the year, to build a positive school climate and culture conducive to student learning are noteworthy."

The district has a number of anti-bullying activities and programs planned at schools in October and throughout the year. Here are some examples:

  • Second Step Bullying Prevention Unit: Students are guided through five lessons specific to the prevention of bullying in kindergarten through sixth grades.
  • Bullying Awareness Posters: Students and their staff advisors, through Club Live, are creating bullying awareness posters for school-wide display.
  • "Stomp Out Bullying Day": Students are making weekly announcements in classrooms with anti-bullying language.
