Las Colinas Jail Inmate Died Of Natural Causes, Autopsy Finds
An inmate who was sick in jail and later died in a hospital succumbed to septic shock, authorities said.
SANTEE, CA — A San Diego County inmate who was sick in jail and later died in a hospital succumbed to septic shock, authorities announced this week.
Shortly after 2 a.m. on July 12, 2022, deputies conducting a safety check found Vianna Granillo, 25, unconscious and unresponsive in her cell at Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee. Granillo was taken to a hospital where she died the next day, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Granillo was arrested five days before her death on suspicion of violating a court order, according to the department.

After conducting an autopsy, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Granillo died of natural cases due to septic shock, sheriff's Lt. Joseph Jarjura said.
"We extend our sympathies to the Granillo family and those affected by her death," Jarjura said. "A sheriff's family liaison officer was assigned to support the family as they dealt with the loss of a loved one."
