Man Accused Of Murdering Grandfather At Santee Home: Sheriff's Office

SANTEE, CA — A man was arrested on suspicion of murdering his grandfather at a Santee home, authorities said.

Derek Spratley, 25, of Santee was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail in connection with the death of his grandfather, Gregory Roundy, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded around 2:10 p.m. Sept. 14 to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a home in the 10800 block of Grand Fork Drive.

Deputies found Roundy suffering from traumatic injuries. Paramedics pronounced him dead at about 2:30 p.m.

Spratley was also found on the property with visible injuries and was taken to a hospital. He was medically cleared the same day before being booked into jail, officials said.

The circumstances and motive remain under investigation. Authorities said the incident appeared to be isolated and there was no ongoing threat to the community.
