Man Fatally Shot In East County

LAKESIDE, CA — A man was shot and killed Tuesday in San Diego's East County, authorities said.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of gunshots at about 3:10 a.m. in the 9700 block of Cactus Street in Lakeside. Deputies found a man lying in the street and suffering from a gunshot wound, sheriff's Lt. Joseph Jarjura said.

Paramedics were called to the scene to render aid, but the man was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m., Jarjura said. He was identified as 26-year-old Michael Anthony Johnson.

There was no confirmed suspect information.

"Sheriff's homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the circumstances and motivation behind this death," Jarjura said. "The investigation is ongoing."
