Man Killed By Falling Tree In East County Identified
Gary Zing, 59, died while cutting a tree at his home in El Cajon.
EL CAJON, CA — A man who was killed this week by a falling tree at his home in eastern San Diego County was publicly identified Friday.
Gary Zing, 59, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday on his property in the 1900 block of Altozano Way in El Cajon, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. He was cutting down a tree and it fell on him.
A family member who was watching Zing cut the branches on FaceTime saw the tree fall on him and called 911, officials said.

"Crews worked carefully over several hours to respectfully remove the individual," said Andy McKellar, emergency preparedness coordinator for Heartland Fire & Rescue.
