Man Killed, Teen Injured In East County Stabbing

EL CAJON, CA – A 17-year-old boy was recovering Wednesday from an apparently gang-related East County stabbing that left a 20-year-old man fatally wounded, authorities reported.

Patrol officers responding to a report of a fight in the 700 block of East Park Avenue in El Cajon arrived to find all the combatants gone, according to police. They then found the younger victim in an apartment in the neighborhood. Medics took him to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Lt. Rob Ransweiler said.

A citizen drove the other victim to a trauma center, but by the time they arrived, the young man was dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.

"Early indication is that the crime is gang-related," the lieutenant said.

Officials withheld the teenage victim's identity.
