Man Killed, Woman Seriously Injured In East County Crash

The driver lost control of the truck she was driving and crashed into a power pole and a brick wall, according to El Cajon police.

EL CAJON, CA — A man was killed and a woman was seriously injured in a crash Monday in a residential neighborhood in eastern San Diego County, authorities said.

The crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of Greenfield Drive in El Cajon. According to the El Cajon Police Department, the driver lost control of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and crashed into a power pole and a brick wall.

The 37-year-old woman and her 45-year-old male passenger were seriously injured and taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, police Lt. Darrin Forster said.

The man was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name was withheld pending family notification. The woman was expected to survive, Forster said.

"After a preliminary investigation of the scene, it appears the Silverado truck was traveling westbound on Greenfield Drive when the driver lost control and collided with a curb and brick wall," Forster said. "It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision and no other vehicles were involved."

The cause of the crash was under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call El Cajon police at 619-579-3311.
